SOUTH WEST housebuilder, Summerfield Homes, has welcomed Gideon Amos MP and senior representatives from Agratas to its flagship development, Killams Park, showing the company’s commitment to sustainable, energy efficient housing.
The visit also included Somerset County Councillor for Comeytrowe and Trull, Habib Farbahi, along with representatives of the building and civil engineering firm Sir Robert McAlpine, which has recently completed the steel frame of the multi-billion-pound Agratas electric vehicle battery facility near Bridgwater.
Agratas is delivering Britain’s biggest electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility on the Gravity Smart Campus in Somerset. The visit showed the shared ambition between a local company and housebuilding, creating sustainable communities.
Summerfield has now completed building the third and final phase of Killams Park, featuring a mix of bungalows and two, three, four, and five bedroom houses incorporating some of the latest energy efficient features.
The energy cost savings come from measures such as double-glazing, insulation on doors, low-energy lighting, counterflow heat exchangers, and EV charging points. At their nearby Middlezoy development, Summerfield Homes has started marketing its first ‘net zero’ homes, which will generate as much renewable energy as they are targeted to consume.
As well as the green aspects, Summerfield has planted 1180 trees and created wildflower meadows and footpaths, enhancing green spaces for residents.
The visitors also learnt about Summerfield’s commitment to the provision of affordable housing and schemes for first-time buyers. A number of properties available are under the company’s MyHome scheme, allowing eligible buyers to purchase homes for 25% less than market value.
Unlike with shared ownership, purchasers buying under the Summerfield MyHome scheme will own the property outright with no ongoing rent payments, and when reselling, the home must be sold under the same affordability criteria. To qualify, interested buyers must register with Homefinder Somerset.
Philip Morgan, Sales and Marketing Divisional Director at Summerfield Homes, said: “Mr Amos was particularly interested in the help we are giving to first-time buyers who are keen to get their first foothold on the property ladder.”
“It was a pleasure to welcome him to Killams Park again, as we are extremely proud of it. It was interesting to see what our other guests made of the measures to save energy and support EV ownership.”
