Travel Information for Middlezoy Residents

Welcome to Saxon Fields Travel Information Pack.

This page provides a collection of information to help inform you on travel choices that are cost-effective and environmentally friendly, as well as giving you a number of health benefits.

Our aim is to promote sustainable travel, making it easier for people to plan journeys and explore different ways of getting around while reducing travel costs, helping decrease environmental impact, and enhancing community connection.

Health Benefits of Walking and Cycling

Walking and Cycling, even for short journeys, can offer you a significant amount of physical and mental health benefits. Regular active movement can improve cardiovascular fitness, helping you maintain a healthy weight and even strengthen your muscles and joints. More physical benefits from walking and/or cycling are proven to improve your mood and sleep, reduce stress, increase energy levels, and support overall wellbeing.

Walking and Cycling can also reduce air pollution in our community, especially when making short journeys.

Start small – like walking to your local shop, cycling short journeys, or combining cycling with public transport.

Walking and Cycling Routes

Route information is available to help you travel locally while being confident, keeping active and enjoying the beautiful area around Middlezoy. The links below show recommended routes you could take.

Cycle to Work Scheme

The Government Cycle to work incentive allows employees to purchase bicycles and cycling equipment tax efficiently through a salary sacrifice arrangement.

How it works is that your employer will initially purchase the bike and/or equipment, which will then be deducted from your gross salary, helping to spread the cost and potentially leading to tax and National Insurance savings.

Improving Driving Techniques and Vehicle Maintenance

We understand that driving will still be a key part of some people’s lives; however, adopting efficient driving techniques and maintaining vehicles properly can significantly reduce fuel consumption and improve road safety.

Eco driving is a driving style to help maximise fuel efficiency while reducing wear and tear on your vehicle. Simple changes in your driving behaviour can make a difference. Maintain a steady speed by anticipating traffic flow, which will help reduce sudden stops and starts. Drivers are also encouraged to turn off their engine when stationary for extended periods and avoid carrying unnecessary weight. Click here to read more

Regular vehicle maintenance can also help improve efficiency and reduce fuel. Ensuring that your tyres are properly inflated, keeping your vehicle well serviced, and checking the oil level can help reduce environmental impact. Click here to read more
