Taunton Developer Supports Priorswood Community Centre

Taunton based developer Summerfield has provided practical help to one of its chosen local charities by creating a new meeting space and storage facilities at Priorswood Community Centre.

As part of The Summerfield Force For Good initiative, managed by Somerset Community Foundation, Summerfield provides long term financial support to The North Taunton Partnership and its Community Centre in Priorswood.

Summerfield’s latest project was to manage around £4,000 worth of improvements carried out by Woodram Construction. The work was to install a partition and bi-fold doors separating a meeting space from the reception area, along with a new storage cupboard.

The upgrades were undertaken while the centre remained open, ensuring minimal disruption. The alterations allow the centre to be used more flexibly for the numerous groups and individuals who visit. The centre offers a wide range of social, fitness, and educational activities as well as support services and has more than 13,000 visits each year.

On a visit to see the completed work, James Holyday, Group Managing Director for Summerfield, said: “We are always pleased when we can use our practical knowledge and skills to help communities, especially in a centre like this where we can tell just how much it is needed and appreciated.”

Lesley Councill for the centre said: “As a small local charity, we are extremely grateful to Summerfield for the support they give, both financially and practically. Without support such as this, the community centre would not be the place it is today, a vibrant hub for local residents to receive the help they need.”

The Summerfield Force for Good Fund was established in 2008 and, since then has made grants worth more than a total of £30,000 to small local charities in and around Taunton.
