We are proud to support a number of charities across Somerset.
Two charities have been chosen by Summerfield staff to be the main beneficiaries for 2017: Conquest Centre and The British Heart Foundation.
Conquest Centre is a leading Somerset charity dedicated to providing a range of mainly equine facilities and coaching for adults and children with a wide range of abilities. Conquest Centre will be the beneficiary of the Summerfield Taunton Boules Tournament on 7 September 2017.
The choice of the British Heart Foundation came about through a very personal connection. The five year old granddaughter of a member of staff has undergone an operation for a heart condition at Bristol Children’s hospital. We are pleased to report the operation was successful and she is now running around, exhausting her parents!
2017: Mendip Junior Open Junior Squash Tournament
Having sponsored junior open squash tournaments in Bridgwater in 2016 and 2015, we were happy to continue in 2017 when the organisers staged this superbly organised event in Street.
2017: Wiveliscombe Area Parnership
This charity is dedicated to supporting the local rural community and we have donated towards the office costs and the running of Wivey Link, which provides community transport within the ’10 parishes’ and beyond.
December 2016: Christmas Sparkle
Summerfield made space available in Victoria House and donated towards the cost of wrapping paper for this once-a-year project which aims to ensure underprivileged children receive a present at Christmas time.
2016: Headway Somerset – Dragon Boat Race
The Summerfield team once again took part in this popular event and raised £1000 in sponsorship at the 2016 Dragon Boat Race, with the proceeds benefitting Headway Somerset, the brain injury charity.
2016: Stroke Association – Summerfield Taunton Boules Tournament
The sixth Boules Tournament raised £2,750 for the Stroke Association, who do so much to provide practical help to sufferers and information on stroke prevention. The charity was also grateful for practical help given by Summerfield to stroke sufferers, such as a garden makeover for a lady in Chard.
Taunton Boules Tournament
Since the first Summerfield Taunton Boules Tournament in 2011 the event has grown in popularity and has become a regular fixture. In previous years, the proceeds have been donated to CLIC Sargent, S.U.R.E. (Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton), Taunton Association for the Homeless, Somerset Crimebeat, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance and the Stroke Association. The 2017 beneficiary is the Conquest Centre (see above).
Somerset Community Foundation
Summerfield has supported the Somerset Community Foundation (SCF) since its inception in 2002 to provide an independent funding body to tackle poverty and disadvantage throughout Somerset. Some years ago, Summerfield set up an endowment fund that enabled the foundation to take advantage of ‘match funding’ by the government. The fund provides income for the foundation to distribute as grants to local organisations and is supplemented with direct donations that we make annually. Beneficiaries from our SCF fund include:
- We’re Eco
- On Your Bike
- Tone Ability in Taunton
- The Daffodil Club in Bridgwater
- The Conquest Equestrian Centre
- The North Taunton Partnership
- Trident Youth and Community Centre
- Somerset Community Care Matters
- The Lane Estates Residents and Tenants Association (LETRA) in Taunton
Other charitable support
Summerfield has also offered support recently to a range of other causes, including:
- Taunton Mencap Summer Ball
- Cheddon Fitzpaine Church School
- Holy Trinity Church School
- Animals Asia – sponsorship of a participant in a Great Wall of China trek to mistreated captive moon bears
- West Buckland Fete and Flower Show
- Sponsorship of a player at North Petherton Rugby Football Club to cover personal development plan, gym membership, kit and refreshments at matches
- Taunton in Bloom
