Somerset property developer, Summerfield, is inviting prospective homebuyers to a viewing evening at the opening of their new show home at The Brambles on Cheddon Road, Taunton, with prices for their My Home housing at 80% of market value for local people.
Phase one of The Brambles development will offer a mix of 26 new homes comprising of two- and three-bedroom houses, as well as two-bedroom coach houses. Twenty of the properties are being sold at 80% of the market rate through the Summerfield ‘My Home’ initiative which offers affordable housing to local people, with prices from £126,000. There are six properties that are ‘affordable by design’ with prices starting at £110,000.
The open evening will be held on the 24 September from 5pm till 7pm and will provide information about finances and the criteria for purchasing a new home under these schemes. Visitors will be able to tour the show homes and see for themselves the extremely high standards of Summerfield’s housing.
Each home is built in a sustainable way; all are energy and water efficient, with double-glazing and gas-fired central heating, and all come complete with an oven, hob and extractor, and high levels of insulation. Externally, there is allocated parking for each new home, the front and rear gardens will be landscaped and a ten-year warranty will be offered on all properties.
These homes will be 100% owned by the purchaser and, unlike shared-ownership homes, there is no rent to pay on a ‘remaining share’ of the property because there is no remaining share. The lower price effectively means that there is less to borrow, hopefully making it more affordable than renting.
Richard Nicol, Divisional Sales Director for Summerfield, said:
“There has been high demand in the area for affordable, well-designed homes that help homeowners keep living costs down, allowing them to enjoy their home even more. We are committed to delivering Summerfield’s usual high quality homes to suit a range of incomes and, working with Taunton Deane Borough Council, we’re excited to show homebuyers the many benefits that the homes at The Brambles have to offer.
“These ‘affordable by design’ homes were created with the view to keeping costs down and saving homeowners money on fuel bills, leaving them room to spend on the things they want to. With winter around the corner energy efficient and sustainable homes really prove their value.
“We believe that these homes will be particularly attractive to first-time buyers and also ‘empty-nesters’, where children are leaving home and parents wish to downsize. What better way to make an important lifestyle transition than buying a brand new, high-quality affordable home.”
Taunton has established itself as an important location in the South West, with significant regeneration as a cultural hub, offering a safe and attractive working and living environment. Cheddon Road is located next to The Taunton Academy, close to local amenities and the town centre, with nearby public transport and road links to central Taunton, Bristol and Exeter.
The Brambles is a purpose built development designed to be affordable for those who have lived in the parishes of Cheddon Fitzpaine, Staplegrove, Kingston St Mary, West Monkton and the Taunton area, or have strong connections and/or permanent employment there.
Summerfield’s development at Cheddon Road is the first of a three-phase low cost home scheme on the site. Phases two and three will complete the planned total of 96 new homes.
