Summerfield Homes staff raise £1000 for heart charity

BHF Summerfield Homes

Dedicated staff at Summerfield Homes in Taunton have shown they’re all heart by raising an incredible £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) lifesaving research.

Earlier this year the BHF was named as one of the as one the property development company’s charities of the year.

The staff at Summerfield Homes chose the BHF to support due to a very personal connection. The five year old granddaughter of a member of staff was born with truncus arteriosis – a condition where the heart’s arteries do not form correctly. The young girl had open heart surgery just nine days after being born, and earlier this year had further surgery to replace a valve in her heart.

To raise funds staff sold bric & brac from ex-show homes and the company itself made a generous contribution.

Richard Nicol, Divisonal Director at Summerfield, said:

“Heart disease devastates the lives of thousands of families so we’re proud to be working with the BHF and playing our part in the fight against it.

“We are determined to make this partnership a success so I’m delighted that our staff, together with customers and suppliers, have already excelled in their fundraising. It’s a promising start in what looks to be an exciting year with the BHF.”

Victoria Carswell, BHF Fundraising Manager for Dorset and Somerset, added:

“Companies like Summerfield Homes play a crucial role in helping us win the fight against heart disease. Not only do they raise vital funds for our lifesaving research, but they also help raise awareness of the terrible impact heart disease has in our communities and how we can protect against it.

“It’s thanks to the dedicated efforts of our supporters, including our corporate partners, that the BHF is able to fund world-class research into heart disease. The amount raised is incredible and we look forward to continuing our work together.”

Thanks to the generosity of its fundraisers the BHF is funding research that is central to discovering new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory disease. By 2020 the BHF  will have funded half a billion pounds of lifesaving research, to help accelerate the fight against these devastating conditions which claim the lives of nearly 160,000 people in the UK each year.
