Hemyock

This thriving village is set in an attractive valley within the Blackdown Hills, giving a sense of being away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, whilst still being within easy reach of Taunton, Honiton, Tiverton and Exeter. The motorway at Wellington is only 5 miles away and the main line station at Taunton 10 miles away.

Hemyock is the largest village in the Blackdown Hills with a rich and varied history going back to its roots in the 12th Century. It even has its own claim to fame with the Cadbury family, famous for their chocolate, originating from the village.

Today the village is busy and vibrant with a great sense of community and a wide range of amenities. A Pre-school and primary school are located in the village, with secondary education based in the nearby village of Uffculme. Both Wellington and Taunton also offer a choice of excellent co-educational private schools from pre-prep to A Level.

Being larger the village has retained many of the features lost by others over recent years, including a pub, shops, post office and medical facilities. The village also boasts excellent new sports amenities with the traditional cricket square and tennis courts being joined by floodlit multi-sport pitches.

The countryside surrounding Hemyock has an abundance of public footpaths and bridleways, from high in the hills to the River Culm that winds through the valley, whether on horse-back or on foot.

The Blackdown Hills have been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the homes at Churchill’s Rise have this as a spectacular backdrop, whilst still being within easy walking distance of the village centre and its many amenities.

Directions

From Wellington Town Centre

Go past Wellington School (on your right) and continue to Oldway Road. At the junction with the A38 go straight across into Ford Street and continue up the hill for approximately 2 miles. At the crossroads at the top of the hill turn right and carry on for approximately 1 mile, turning left at the signpost for Hemyock. Follow this road down Combe Hill and into the village itself. At the far end of the village by the Memorial Pump turn left into the High Street. Churchill’s Rise is on the right.

Directions from M5 – Jct 26

Take the exit for Wellington from the motorway slip road. At the next roundabout take the left exit, A38 towards Tiverton. After approximately 1 mile take the left hand turn into Ford Street and continue up the hill for approximately 2 miles. At the crossroads at the top of the hill turn right and carry on for approximately 1 mile, turning left at the signpost for Hemyock. Follow this road down Combe Hill and into the village itself.
