Summerfield Developments have recently submitted a detailed planning application to develop a new bespoke headquarters office building for ATASS Ltd at Exeter Business Park. The new development which will be part occupied, part sublet will be one of the most significant ever to take place in Exeter, and will provide 40,000 sq ft of office accommodation. In addition, unique staff facilities are being provided for the health and well being of employees including an all weather sports pitch, gym and trim trail.
The bespoke green building also reaches new heights of design and engineering feasibility in providing an environmentally friendly office. The building has been designed by Broadway Malyan Architects to have its own micro electricity generation on site in the form of photovoltaic cells on the brise soleil that also act as solar shading for the building.
A host of other environmental features have been incorporated into the design to minimise energy and water use, including the use of intelligent lighting systems, air source heat pumps and automatic windows to allow the thermal mass of the building to cool at night. Rain water will also be collected from the roof to be used in the building, minimising water usage.
Construction work is set to begin at the beginning of 2010 with completion of the project anticipated by spring 2011. Ground works for the building have already been completed, as part of the advanced planning of the business park.
Phil Wade, Senior Development Surveyor commenting on the development said, “We are delighted to be developing such an outstanding and genuinely green building, that once completed will become part of the gateway to Exeter. The deal signifies the largest single office transaction in Exeter for 5 years since Summerfield’s bespoke development of 40,000 sq ft for Michelmores Solicitors in 2004”.
