Hemyock scoops Village of the Year accolade.

HEMYOCK has fought off competition from across Devon to become the county’s Calor ‘Village of the Year’ 2009.

It will now take part in the regional finals on October 6.

The judges highlighted the vibrant life of the village and the many associations and activities on offer to all ages, particularly sports facilities and clubs.

The report said: “There is definitely something for everyone and more.”

The judges were also impressed by the “forward thinking” ‘Garage Project’, which will house a youth centre, and by the Blackdown Hills Business Association.

Caring for the Elderly and disabled was clearly a priority as represented by the Blackdown Support Group, while church activities were also highlighted as important.

The report concluded that Hemyock was home to “what must be a most content and fortunate population”.

Parish council chairman Heather Stallard said: “I was thrilled at the result and that Hemyock won the village award for Devon because it truly deserves to.

“Thanks to the many people who make the village special and those who made presentations to the panel of judges.”
