Westpark 26

November 2008

Millions of pounds is being invested by a local company in the infrastructure for Westpark 26 – the brand new 40 acre business park on the A38 south of Wellington.

The aim is to create the potential for about one thousand new jobs in the area. To do that, developers Summerfield are building more than two miles of roads, a cyclepath and footpath linking Chelston and the Westpark 26 to the town, plus all the service facilities necessary for new industrial and business premises. The entrance to Westpark 26 is from the new roundabout currently being constructed on the A38.

More than an acre of landscaping will be provided, hundreds of trees and shrubs planted, and a foul pumping station will be built to serve the 300 homes at nearby Cades Farm. Drainage will be provided by a two acre lagoon, with a capacity of 12,000 cubic metres of water, which will also provide a new wildlife habitat. And the new business park will need some five megawatts of power to operate.

Westpark 26 has planning consent for a pub and hotel, industrial and distribution units, car showrooms, a crèche and possibly a doctors' surgery or veterinary centre, as well as trade counter units and offices. Summerfield is hoping to has attracted the interest of national and regional companies to join local ones to benefit from its central position in the South West, close to the M5. Phase one of the park, branded the Enterprise Zone, will include light industrial and distribution units ranging up to 3,000 sq ft. And Summerfield is planning to make the new business park as green as possible.

Commercial director Nigel Hounslow says that all green and sustainable standards can be considered in new premises if the companies get involved at the earliest possible stage. "We are looking forward to providing the potential for new and existing companies in the district to grow and provide new job opportunities." Taunton based Summerfield Developments is responsible for the prestige Blackbrook Office Park at junction 25 of the M5 at Taunton and has already successfully developed both phases 1 and 2 of the Chelston Business Park at Taunton.
