The Quad

23 April 2007

The Quad, a striking new office development in Taunton, was officially opened by Cllr. John Williams, Leader of Taunton Deane, on Friday.

The development is a courtyard of four 6,000 sq.ft offices with willow landscaping at the Blackbrook office park, at junction 25 of the M5. Cllr. Williams congratulated the company and said he was impressed by the standard and quality of the Quad buildings. He said Taunton was lucky Summerfield Developments (SW) Ltd had had the foresight to create the 15 hectare Blackbrook office park and attract large businesses and buildings such as the new regional fire control centre, which was a tremendous achievement.

Cllr. Williams said the provision of jobs at the office park improved the overall situation for everyone in Somerset. Summerfield, he added, were looking forward to starting work on a new business development at Chelston, Wellington, and looking for more.

He also praised the company for their housing work and particularly for the development of a new affordable housing scheme at Ham. Guests at the opening were welcomed by Richard Lloyd, Chief Executive of Summerfield Developments, who said the company was very proud of the Quad. He thanked the architects, contractors and Tom Noall, the retiring chief planning officer of Taunton Deane.

Mr Lloyd told guests that since Summerfield began developing Blackbrook in 1990, they had provided some 350,000 sq ft of office space, which had created some 3,000 jobs. He said it had taken time and the company had been patient, particularly in the mid 1990's. There are still a few places left. He said two of the four buildings are already occupied by Matrix and Foot Anstey. Two more are to let. All are on two floors, have comfort cooling, willow landscaping and 30 parking spaces each.

Businesses at Blackbrook already include the Western Provident Association, BSI, Clarke Willmottt, Somerset County Council, Clydesdale Bank, Natwest, RBS, Strongvox and Knightstone Housing.
