A new housing development in the picturesque village of Stogumber by Taunton based Summerfield Developments [SW] Ltd is nearing completion, and with it we are seeing a small Viking invasion once again.
In 843, the area surrounding Stogumber suffered raids from Danish invaders following the landing of 35 longboats at Carhampton, since then it has seen both the Romans and Normans, but it would seem that the Danes are keen to return. All the new homes being built will incorporate the latest solar hot water systems by the Danish company VELUX, the first homes in the UK to have these.
"Issues such as climate change and increasing fuel costs mean that home buyers are looking for more energy efficient homes, by fitting solar hot water systems we are able to utilise the sunęs free energy" say Richard Nicol, Sales Director for Summerfield Developments. He goes on to say –that even with the British weather up to 60% of the hot water required for each home will be provided free by the natural rays of the sun” This first foray into the British market by VELUX is supported by more than 10 years of experience gained in rest of Europe where in some countries all new homes built have to have solar collectors.
Having grown from a local family construction business, Summerfield Developments are acutely aware of the sensitivity surrounding architectural detailing, and it is for that reason they chose the VELUX system which allows the collectors to sit neatly within the tiled roof. All of the properties have been carefully designed to compliment the very distinct character of the village location.
