Turnpike Business Park

28th April 2005

Office Park specialists Summerfield Developments announced this week that work has started on a showcase environmentally friendly building for office environment designers Herman Miller on the Turnpike Business Park in Chippenham.

Herman Miller are making the 20,000 ft2 building their international showroom and visitor?s centre, as well as offices replacing their current UK headquarters in Bath.

The bespoke two floor building, designed to a high Breeam office standard, incorporates a natural ventilation system and sustainable build and furnishings throughout.

This is Summerfield?s third large signing on the 6.92 acre Turnpike Business Park. Fleet Support was first with 10,000 ft2, followed by major local employers Wincanton Transport. They chose the Turnpike site for their new 50,000ft2 headquarters, designed on four floors.

Chief Executive of Summerfield Developments, Richard Lloyd said: ? This is further evidence of rapid business development in the area and testimony to Summerfield?s growing reputation for delivering personalised and customised offices for clients.?

Herman Miller designs great places to work and new office landscapes, designing and manufacturing innovative office furniture in more than 50 countries worldwide.

Nigel Hounslow, Divisional Director for Summerfield said: ? This is a typical example of how we work closely with companies to provide the building they want. We don?t have any pre-conceived ideas. This is a building which reflects our flexibility and Herman Miller?s attitude towards the environment and their innovative corporate image.?

Herman Miller?s Company Secretary, Sarah Quartley, said: ?The building will tell a story of sustainability and environmental responsibility."

The Taunton office of Midas Construction Ltd have won the £2.2 million contract to build the project. This follows the company's recent completion of the new office facility for Wincanton. The project team includes architects Gensler and Plymouth based Jubb Consulting Engineers.

Work should be completed by the end of the year, and Herman Miller plan to move in with 70 staff in January, 2006.

Agents for Summerfield are Tim Hamilton of Hamiltons of Bath (01225 466859) and John Mulholland of King Sturge (01225 319300) for Herman Miller.
