A pioneering scheme to build an eco home under a Tauntoun roundabout is being unveiled today (Friday).
Summerfield Homes has applied for planning permission to build the home with a grass roof below the main roundabout at Hankridge Farm.
The company, which recently agreed to sponsor the roundabout for Taunton in Bloom, says it has been offered a development opportunity to build a mainly undergound property on the roundabout.
The plan will not affect the important visibility splays for traffic, it says.
Summerfield chief exeucitve Richard Lloyd said:" I think this three bedroom house will sell well with its unique features and all round outlook, and folows hard on the heels of the success of our two underground houses in Vivary Park. We are hoping the planning authority will approve this exciting development which puts Taunton at the forefront of land utilisation and complies with the Government's desire for cheaper houses."
"If successful Summerfield will be seeking to acquire further roundabouts throughout Taunton for development, with the local authority using the money generated for important road improvements."
