Places filling up for Boules 2018!
Summerfield has pleasure in inviting businesses in the Taunton area to take part in this year’s Taunton Boules Tournament, but places are limited and we really don’t like having to turn people away! Please book soon to avoid disappointment.
Here are details of this year’s challenge.
Tuesday 4 September 2018
1.45 pm for 2.00 pm
Taunton Vale Sports Club, Gypsy Lane, Taunton TA2 6LL
£90 per team, with proceeds to our chosen charity for 2018 – but please feel free to add £20 or £10, with the extra going straight to the charity.
The Charity – Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA)
Prostate cancer rates are continuing to rise, and statistics revealed in March by Prostate Cancer UK show that the disease has now become a bigger killer than breast cancer for the first time.
This little-talked-about illness has been in the news lately, most notably with Stephen Fry, former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull and writer George Monbiot speaking out recently about their own diagnoses and treatments.
This year we wanted to do something practical to help the charitable organisation chosen by our staff, Somerset Prostate Support Association (SPSA). The charity, a much needed source of help and support for men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, is patient-led and run entirely by volunteers. They provide assistance and advice to sufferers and their families and seek to raise awareness and encourage life-saving early diagnosis.
We are working with SPSA to sponsor a PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) testing day in Taunton later in the year (after the Boules) which will be open to all males in the area. Luckily, Ladies, you won’t suffer from this disease but your husbands, brothers, fathers, sons and friends might benefit from your knowledge! More details about the testing event will follow but meanwhile if you would like to know more about prostate cancer and the signs to look out for, here are some links:
In past years many of you have generously added £20 to your Boules team entry fee as an extra donation to the charity and it will be much appreciated if you feel able to do so again.
Click on the logo below for more information about SPSA.
If you are unable to attend but would like to support the charity, please make a cheque out to “Summerfield Developments (SW) Ltd” and send it with a note to indicate that it is for Boules 2018/SPSA to:
